Coat of Many Dreams/ Harlequin Dreams...or As You Like it
She wore a red green and blue poem.
Her coat of multicolored dreams
She was born a wistful wishful observant harlequin.
Life showered her with drama
And it watered off her duck's back
Her lack of understanding was
Amazing
She saw things in white and black.
But gradually seeing all around her colorful butterflies
A woman was awakening
Who wanted the lies
To be real honest and fair
The colors others sported she took on as a dare
And she donned the dream coat
Which her whole life she had spun
But the carnival got over
Just as the fun begun.
The coat with its patches
Had holes in the seams
And therein a slow leakage
Pooled out her dreams
In a dirty puddle
At her cinderella feet
She kind of cried a bitter goodbye
The kind when you know you cannot meet
You can never match the people who vacate your dreams
The kind you cry when absolutely nothing
can be what its ever been
The farewell you bid when all that you ever need
Becomes forbidden as untimely greed.
Well she shrugged it off her shoulders
As It fell to the ground
Tenderly retrieved and brushed
It was slung around
By another person
And she started to smile
Good bye little girl
Enjoy for a while
For a while it's yours
The coat of many dreams
But one last dream will show you
Nothing
Is just how it seems.
Black and White fades out to grey
The colors mix and match away
They coalesce and fall like snow
The curtains fall
As darkness glows
And finally
The color of your dream gets
Caught in your eyes.
The object you desired
Absorbed all but
Your lies.
